How it works

macOS provides paired display modes for notch MacBooks. Each resolution has an "above notch" and "below notch" variant. GoneNotch switches between them.

1

Detects your notch display

GoneNotch identifies your MacBook's built-in display and checks for paired display modes. It works on all notch MacBooks (14" and 16", 2021 and later).

2

Switches to the below-notch resolution

Uses the public macOS CGDisplaySetDisplayMode API to switch to the shorter resolution variant. For example, 1800x1169 becomes 1800x1125 on a 16" MacBook Pro.

3

The notch area becomes unused

The display shifts down so the entire usable screen area is below the notch. Your menu bar, windows, and everything else render in the clean area. Toggle back anytime with Cmd+Ctrl+N.

Get rid of the notch

Free, open source, and works on all notch MacBooks.
